Advanced Operating Room (OR) Management Programme

WHY THIS PROGRAMME MATTERS

Operating theatres are high-value, high-risk environments where performance depends on coordination, leadership, workflow control, safety systems, and data-driven decision-making.

This programme strengthens the critical coordination layer within facilities—equipping Theatre In-Charges to function as system leaders, not just clinical supervisors.

Fix the system. Improve the outcomes.

Designed for those who drive theatre performance.

WHAT PARTICIPANTS WILL GAIN

By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

Strengthen OR governance, coordination, and accountability systems
Optimize theatre workflow and operational efficiency
Reduce cancellations, delays, and surgical backlog
Enforce infection prevention and sterile systems
Improve emergency and trauma theatre readiness
Use data for performance management and decision-making
Lead multidisciplinary teams effectively
Design and implement practical OR improvement interventions

DELIVERY MODEL

The programme will be delivered through a structured three-phase model: a pre-course facility baseline diagnostic, a two-week intensive onsite training, and a capstone Facility Improvement Project supported by mentorship and follow-up guidance.

This approach ensures that learning is grounded in real institutional challenges and translated into practical, measurable theatre improvement interventions.

Blended Training + Facility Improvement Model

Before the onsite training, participants will complete a structured facility baseline diagnostic to establish a clear understanding of their current operating theatre environment. This assessment will help identify existing system strengths, operational gaps, and priority improvement areas that will inform the training experience and guide the capstone Facility Improvement Project. Includes:

  • facility baseline assessment
  • theatre workflow review
  • identification of gaps and bottlenecks
  • priority improvement area selection

Participants will undertake a structured two-week onsite training programme designed to build core operating theatre management capacity through an interactive and practice-oriented learning experience. This phase will create the space for participants to engage with key concepts, share facility experiences, test practical approaches, and strengthen confidence in applying theatre management tools within their own institutional settings. The onsite phase will combine:

  • Expert-led sessions
  • Simulation-based learning
  • Case discussions
  • Peer learning
  • Practical exercises
  • Applied theatre management tools

As the final phase, participants will develop a practical Facility Improvement Action Plan focused on a priority theatre management challenge identified through the facility baseline diagnostic and strengthened during the onsite training. This phase will help participants consolidate their learning and translate programme concepts into a clear, facility-relevant improvement roadmap. The capstone will include:

  • Facility Improvement Action Plan
  • implementation roadmap
  • measurable improvement targets
  • presentation/review of capstone output
  • Monitoring and follow-up plan
